چکیده

The human cornea is the transparent, dome-shaped tissue that covers anterior segment of the eye. It consists of five thin layers: epithelium, Bowman’s layer, stroma, Descemet’s membrane and endothelium. Due to its transparency, real-time in vivo confocal microscop‐ ic observation of the normal and diseased cornea was developed since the early 1990s. [1,2] Since histologic-like images are obtained by the device, it is called “painless biopsy” and/or “in vivo biopsy”. In this chapter, clinical application of in vivo laser confocal microscopy is demonstrated.

Variations of the Normal Human Limbal Stem Cells Detected by In Vivo Confocal Microscopy

Background  To report normal variations of the limbal structures using in vivo laser scanning confocal microscopy. Methods: This was a retrospective study of fourteen eyes from 11 healthy individuals. Confocal imaging of cornea and limbus was performed using Heidelberg Retina Tomograph III Rostock Corneal Module. Results: The typical structure of the palisades of Vogt (POV) was detected ...

Loratadine- Loaded Thermoresponsive Hydogel : Characterization and Ex-vivo Rabbit Cornea Permeability Studies

Poor bioavailability of ophthalmic drops is mainly due to drainage through the nasal-lacrimal duct and a very low permeability through corneal epithelium. The aim of our study was to prepare and characterize an ocular hydrogel of loratadine, as an example of a lipophilic drug, to increase drug concentration and residence time at the site of action in the eye. In this study,a 23full factorial de...

Keratoconus experimentally produced in mice using collagenase

Introduction: Keratoconus is a relatively common disease of cornea in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a conical shape and scar at the central portion of cornea. So far, few methods and drug treatments were introduced due to both lack of accepted animal models to induce experimental keratoconus and limitation of research in human considering ethical issu...

Numerical Analysis of the Thermal Interaction of Cell Phone Radiation with Human Eye Tissues

Introduction: The present study aimed to present a numerical analysis of the penetration depth,  specific absorption rate (SAR), and temperature rise in various eye tissues with varying distance between radiation source and exposed human eye tissues (i.e., cornea, posterior chamber, anterior chamber, lens, sclera, vitreous humor, and iris) at frequencies of 900 and1800 MHz. Materials and Method...
